Although Carabao cup is not on the top of our priority list but winning a trophy boosts a team’s morale.
Last night we faced Doncaster Rovers in the 3rd round of the Carabao cup. I’d be lying if I said it was an easy fixture. They put up an immense display and gave us a tough time.
Here’s what we learned from their visit to the Emirates last night:
- Darren Ferguson almost equally impressive as father Sir Alex Ferguson:Sir Alex’s son impressed former rival Arsene Wenger. Arsene Wenger invited Sir Alex to watch him and his son go head to head.
Here’s what Wenger had to say:
“They came, they gave us a tough time.
They never showed us any weakness, mentally they kept going until the end. Doncaster could have scored a goal as well, and I must say I was surprised by their quality and their level.”So they shouldn’t be too concerned about staying in the league. … They have enough to stay in the league for me.” - Arsenal record lowest attendance at EmiratesLast night Arsenal recorded their lowest attendance of 44,064. This was the lowest ever for Arsenal in a competitive first team match. The previous low being 46,539 for a League Cup match with Shrewsbury Town on September 20, 2011.
- Wilshere’s “ideal” performance
Last night was probably one of Jack Wilshere’s finest performances. He played 90 minutes for Arsenal for the first time since 2014.
Wenger was right when he said that Wilshere is more mature now. Here’s what Wenger had to say:“I wanted to leave him on to give him 90 minutes, and overall I think it was an ideal game for him tonight to gain confidence and fitness,” Wenger said. “We’ll see after that how he responds. I think you have to put this game into perspective as well, it did not exactly have the intensity of a Premier League game. But it’s important for him to build him up gradually.”
We only gained positive results from last night’s fixture and we hope we can carry on this form for the rest of the season.
