WHY LEMAR’S TRANSFER TO ARSENAL DIDN’T HAPPEN
We know all of you must’ve been wondering how did Lemar’s transfer failed?
Thomas Lemar who was a very interesting prospect this summer. Everyone wanted to sign him. Several Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool wanted the French winger’s services.
On deadline day, when Manchester City made a deadline day bid for Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal’s interest in the young winger immediately ignited. Alexis Sanchez was hell bent on getting a transfer away from Arsenal. Since Sanchez was on the last year of his contract, there was no stopping him.
Either cash on him then or let him go for free next season.
Arsene Wenger on several occasions insisted how he didn’t want to sell his star player. But there was no stopping the Chilean forward from reuniting with his former boss Pep Guardiola.
Wenger had tried his best to make the Chilean stay. But he didn’t want to.
So on deadline day, Arsenal agreed to sell Alexis Sanchez to city for a sum around £60m. But there was one stipulation.
Arsenal had to find a replacement if they were to let him go. Arsene Wenger had eyes set on Thomas Lemar.
Everything was going smoothly. Arsenal made a £92m bid for the young French star. It was enough to convince Monaco. But for some reason. The transfer didn’t happen.
Several rumors were spread like the player rejected Arsenal or Arsenal felt that they didn’t have sufficient time to complete the deal.
But recently, AS Monaco Vice President Vadim Vasilyev gave us some insight on why the deal didn’t went through.
He said:
‘Liverpool were really interested,’
‘But it was Arsenal that was really close to finalising the deal.
‘It was quite close. At the same time it was just too late, not enough time to really follow up on this deal.
‘Not all the elements of the puzzle fell in place. I’m very happy he stayed with us. For us, we need a player like Thomas Lemar. He’s very important to our team.
‘Definitely next summer [it] will be something to look at, although you know in football there are no guarantees.
‘We had some players who were supposed to leave this summer but didn’t leave because of X, Y, Z. I think it would be fair to say Thomas will have a fair chance to an exit next year.
‘January? In football, never say never, but this is not what we’re thinking of, this is really not in our plans.
‘Then we have to wait and see how the team does in different competitions, if we have an interest in him and what his ambitions after the World Cup are. January doesn’t seem like the right time for major changes in the team.’
So it seems Arsenal were leading the race for the French star. This means his transfer to Arsenal in any time in the near future is possible. Let’s hope we get to see it happen. ')}
